FROM: challenge@dc3.mil DATE: Wed 12/1/2010 12:00 PM EST Congratulations, You have done it again, showcased your talent and creativity by your submissions to this year's DC3 Digital Forensics Challenge 2010. This challenge showed an increased participation of 71 submitting teams, up from the 44 submitting teams for the 2009 DC3 Digital Forensic Challenge. With all the talent, knowledge, and energy that the DC3 Digital Forensics Challenge 2010 submitting teams put into their Findings Reports, Methodologies, and Programs, it was quite the job to complete the grading on time. The objectives of the Annual Digital Forensics Challenge are to establish relationships; resolve technological issues; and develop new tools, techniques, and methodologies for the digital forensic community. We also hope we have also encouraged some of you to fill the ranks of future digital forensics practitioners and researchers if you haven't already. It is through your efforts such as this that you and DC3 assist in making a difference for the community. This year, we had an increase in sponsorship for providing awarded prizes (please refer to The 2010 DC3 Digital Forensics Challenge home page http://www.dc3.mil/challenge/2010/prizes.php for additional prize information). However, as in many competitions, there can be only so many prizes for award. Out of the total 11 awarded prizes by DC3, SANS, IMPACT, EC-Council, JHU/CyberWatch, and the Cyber Security Challenge UK, the winners of the 2010 DC3 Digital Forensics Challenge are: Award Team Name Score Country ================================================================================ Overall ------- Grand Champion DFRC 3,297 South Korea International ------------- Prize IMPACT (Non-US Only) DFRC 3,297 South Korea Prize ECC - Commercial LittleTree 1,791 South Korea Prize ECC - Civilian Williams Twins Forensics 1,470 United States Prize UK Challenge (UK Only) Mine Inc 352 United Kingdom U.S. ---- Prize DC3 (U.S. Only) Williams Twins Forensics 1,470 United States Prize ECC - U.S. Government LBPDCCID 409 United States Prize ECC - U.S. Military Batcheej 88 United States US Academia ----------- Prize SANS - U.S. Undergraduate Team Name 1,129 United States Prize SANS - U.S. Graduate WriteBlockers 988 United States Prize SANS - U.S. High School Crash Override 361 United States Prize JHU/CyberWatch - PWNsauce 84 United States U.S. Community Colleges Overall rankings and rankings per prize are listed on the 2010 DC3 Challenge stats page.
